Adopt a Baby Sulcata Tortoise

Adopt a Baby Sulcata Tortoise

Before you buy any pet, it’s always a good thing to look for animals in need of a home. In many cases, people who cannot care for a large sulcata tortoises will drop off their pet at reptile rescues, sanctuaries or foster homes. It’s not as often that you will find a baby sulcata tortoise for adoption, but before you buy one, look to adopt a baby sulcata tortoise.

Baby Sulcata Tortoises for Adoption

Sulcata tortoises are one of the more popular pet tortoises, but because of their adult size, they don’t often stay in their original home.

In many cases, the owner realizes he/she cannot provide adequate space for an adult sulcata, which leads them to the path of finding a new home for their pet.

When looking to adopt a baby sulcata, you may find it harder than adopting an adult sulcata. BUT, don’t let that deter you. You may find that someone’s female tortoise laid a viable clutch of eggs that hatched. Now, all the babies need good homes. Sometimes these babies are posted for rehoming on social media websites like Facebook. Other times, the babies are taken to a rescue or sanctuary to find a future home.

Where Can I Adopt a Baby Sulcata?

Social Media Websites

Check Facebook rehoming groups. Be VERY careful of who you adopt from. Ask to see the animal in person. Ask for background information. In many cases, animals being rehomed in the rehoming/adoption groups are sick and require a lot of vet care. Just be mindful, in case this is something you can’t afford at the moment.

Do not send money prior to getting the animal. You will find many crooks on Facebook and social media websites who have stolen pictures from the internet, claim they need to rehome their sulcata and are trying to steal your money.

If you want to rescue or rehome a tortoise, check out the American Tortoise Rescue. Search for a rescue in your state. Again, these animals are at rescues, so you’ll find a vet has likely already checked them out, but you’ll also have an adoption fee.
