Zoo Med Grassland for Sulcata Tortoise

Zoo Med Grassland for Sulcata Tortoise

Zoo Med Grassland Tortoise Diet is formulated for Russian, Greek, Sulcata Leopard and Pancake tortoises. This tortoise pellet contains long-stem fibers from natural grasses like oat, timothy and alfalfa. The pellet also contains nutritious dandelion greens, yucca and other plants, as well as added vitamins and minerals.

Zoo Med Grassland Tortoise Diet lists grasses high on the ingredient list, making it a great option for tortoises that need a lot of grass in their diet. IE Sulcatas… But, they also include high-fiber greens like escarole and endive.

When you take a close look at the pellets you can see all healthy long-stem fibers.

How to Feed Zoo Med Grassland Pellets to Sulcata

The Grassland tortoise pellets “activate” a tortoise’s natural instinct to eat dried plants they find in the wild.

When feeding Zoo Med Grassland pellets, you can feed dry or moistened.

For babies and young sulcata tortoises, it is easier to soak the pellets in water. It’s easier for smaller tortoises to eat the pellets moistened. Be aware that when moistened, the pellets will expand A LOT. If you add too much water, then the pellets will break a part. The pellets are still very much edible this way. You just won’t have a pellet anymore.

In order to feed your tortoise dry pellets, you can offer as is. Or grind up and sprinkle the dry crumbles over grasses and greens.

My Sulcata Won’t Eat Zoo Med Grassland

If your sulcata won’t eat Grassland pellets, then don’t give up. The product is a great pellet with fibers and grasses vital for a healthy tortoise.

Be persistent. The more you offer it, your tortoise will consume little by little. At first, it will just get the taste of the pellets. Then, the more your tortoise gets used to being served the pellets, he’ll try it more and more.

If your sulcata will eat Mazuri tortoise pellets, then try soaking the Grassland pellets with the Mazuri and mush together. Or, try crumbling the moistened (or dry) Grassland pellets on top of moistened Mazuri.
